NHS HIGHLAND

RAIGMORE HOSPITAL, INVERNESS

CONSULTANT IN TRAUMA & ORTHOPAEDIC SURGERY

NHS Highland is seeking to recruit one Trauma & Orthopaedic Consultant to join the department in Raigmore Hospital, Inverness. This post is offered on the new Consultant Contract terms and conditions of service.

The City of Inverness is the Capital of the Highlands and enjoys a unique and enviable lifestyle and environment. Raigmore is a modern District General Hospital with 500 beds and a catchment area of almost 10,000 square miles covering the entire Scottish Highlands.

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery comprises 14 Consultants.  The provision of the service to a large geographical area requires a particularly flexible and imaginative approach by a team of enthusiastic and dedicated Consultants. This post will participate in an on-call rota for trauma along with provision of elective services. The Department has Speciality Registrars rotating from both Aberdeen and Dundee rotations and there is a regular attachment of Medical Students from Aberdeen University. The provision of an extra Consultant is to support an increase in capacity.  The Scottish Government and NHS Highland are currently building the National Treatment Centre Highland which will cater for a large proportion of primary lower limb arthroplasty and other orthopaedic elective services.

Raigmore Hospital is the principal DGH providing undergraduate teaching for the University of Aberdeen and the Centre for Health Science and clinical skills centre has an extensive up-to-date library to support this commitment.  Good links exist with the Highlands and Islands Research Institute.

Applicants must be on the Specialist Register or within six months of the anticipated award of a CCT at the time of interview for the post.

Informal enquiries will be welcomed by: Mr Christian Michels, Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery 01463 705383 or christian.michels@nhs.scot
