You will work within the nursing and multi-professional team to ensure a high standard of care to a patients and staff calling the Beatson Cancer Treatment Helpline and for patients in the AOAU. Competently perform the necessary communication and technical/invasive/physical aspects of care for this patient group. You will provide care and support to patients with cancer receiving Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT), radiotherapy and supportive therapies who require rapid access to assessment, monitoring and intervention. Patients’ age range is from young adults to the elderly. The Acute Oncology Assessment Unit (AOAU) operates Monday – Friday from 0800 to 2000 and houses the Beatson Cancer Treatment Helpline which operates 8am-8pm, 7 days a week. You will contribute to the operational responsibilities of the Beatson Cancer Treatment Helpline which includes telephone assessment of patients calling with acute toxicities of treatment, and signposting for onward assessment / treatment, some of which will be in AOAU and include clinical management of the patients. You will assess patient needs, plan/implement and evaluate a programme of care which is evidence based utilising all available resources taking into consideration the lifestyle, gender and cultural background and ensure involvement with the patient, family, carers and significant others. It is essential that you are currently a Registered Nurse with the NMC and having cancer experience would be desirable. The shift pattern for this post is Day shift (12 hours) mon-fri, flexible working patterns.
