We wish to appoint a Trained Advanced Critical Care Practitioner to join the Critical Care team at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. The successful candidate will join a cohesive and dynamic multidisciplinary team committed to excellence in all aspects of intensive care medicine driven by wide-ranging quality improvement projects.
The Critical Care unit at Glasgow Royal Infirmary unit is a mixed 20 bedded area, with a nominal 12 level 3 beds and 8 surgical level 2 beds. We provide tertiary care for burns, pancreatic diseases, complex upper GI surgery, sarcoma surgery and gynaecological cancer.
We have an active research programme through links with the University of Glasgow Department of Anaesthesia, Pain and Critical Care and are committed to education and practice development, evidenced by our tailored induction package and multi-modal in-house teaching programme. The consultant body has varied interests and expertise including health improvement, point of care ultrasound, education, ethics, diagnostic error, simulation and ICU follow up.
The unit is staffed by one consultant (from a group of 14) and one trainee for each 10 beds. There may also be senior trainees in intensive care medicine or from the medical specialties. Advanced critical care practitioners have been in post in the unit for over four years and are a recognised asset in ensuring continuity of care, staff orientation and multidisciplinary interaction. They currently support our baseline medical staffing but also contribute to audit, research, quality improvement and teaching in a major and readily visible way that is intended to inspire others to pursue this role. Non-clinical time (6 hours per month) is allocated to support this.
Applicants for this post should be registered as a Non-Medical Prescriber (NMP) and possess the MSc in Advanced Practice (or equivalent). They will be required to have achieved or be willing to work towards credentialing by the FICM (Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine) as an ACCP. We welcome enquiries from enthusiastic, forward-thinking, well-organised and motivated individuals with a positive attitude to join our multi-professional team in Glasgow Royal Infirmary Intensive Care Unit.
