United Nations Conference of Parties 26

Area Service Manager – Event Planning

A4C Band 7 (1 post)

NHS Louisa Jordan Ambulance Station, Glasgow (under review)

Secondment / Fixed Term opportunity to end December 2021 (Existing Scottish Ambulance Service staff wishing to apply for this role on secondment should seek current line manager approval prior to application)

In November 2021 Glasgow will be hosting the UN Conference of Parties 26 (COP 26), an annual climate change conference with over 40,000 delegates and with 187 invited heads of state.

The conference will be held at and around the Scottish Exhibition Campus at Finnieston. This will be a large, complex event to manage and there is also the possibility of disruption to our business as usual activity due to the number of VVIP’s and delegates in attendance, with the potential for local and regional climate change activism.

An opportunity has arisen for a critical post for the planning of our arrangements for this event. We are seeking to recruit an experienced operational manager who will provide support to the COP 26 project. They will work closely with a team of operational and administrative staff to plan the operational response to the conference. This will include activity around the conference venue, management of attendees and maintenance of our response to non-event (business as usual) activity.

Ideally the manager will have significant operational and / or event planning and delivery experience at operational level. The post holder will be required to work closely with multi agency partners as well as lead and deliver on a number of key work streams across all areas.

Reporting to the Assistant Head of Operational Planning and Delivery (Events), the base location is Glasgow with travel across Scotland as required. Applicants should note that security clearance will be required for this post.

Informal enquiries may be made to John Paul Murray on 07833952475 or Johnpaul.murray@nhs.scot

Interviews will take place in April 2021 with the post holder starting as soon as possible after that.
