Lead Adult Audiologist - AFC band 7 (£39,693 - £46,467)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Audiologist to lead and further develop adult hearing and rehabilitation services within Aberdeen city and shire. The post-holder shall be based in Aberdeen but will be expected to participate in peripheral locations throughout Grampian.

The post-holder shall require excellent time management as the successful applicant will be expected to manage a highly complex caseload. Duties will include delivering clinical expertise for assessing and managing tinnitus and sound-sensitivity disorders. The post-holder will also lead Hearing Therapy services which include assessment and rehabilitation of auditory processing disorders, as well as dedicated care for adults with a learning disability. The post-holder should be familiar with the theory and application of advanced diagnostic procedures such as Quick-SIN, LiSN - S and oto-acoustic emission testing as a means of evaluating patients whose degree of hearing loss does not tally with perceived difficulties. Post-registration training and qualifications for tinnitus and Hearing Therapy would be desirable but not essential.

This friendly and innovative department currently employs 27.44 WTE comprising clinical Audiologists, assistant technical officers, new-born hearing screeners and clerical staff. The main base at Woodend Hospital and all peripheral locations have been fully modernised to provide equitable services across Grampian. There is also a dedicated and modernised Audiology facility located with a separate Children’s Hospital.

The department has a wide range of responsibilities covering the entirety of Audiological provision to adults and children throughout Grampian. Clinical services include neonatal screening, community and hospital-based testing, audio-vestibular assessment and rehabilitation, Hearing Therapy, tinnitus management, adult and paediatric auditory (re)habilitation, as well as a bone anchored hearing aid programme.

The successful applicant must possess a BSc or MSc in Audiology or equivalent. They must also have registration with RCCP or HCPC and significant post-qualification experience. A positive attitude towards personal and staff development is essential.

Grampian is rich in natural beauty with the Cairngorm Mountains, skiing, walking and sailing right on the doorstep. Aberdeen is a bright, cosmopolitan city with excellent facilities for education, leisure and shopping. Rail and airport facilities make travel straight forward.
