We have posts at both University Hospital Crosshouse and University Hospital Ayr with successful candidates being based at one of these sites. As part of our team you will contribute to the 10 year vision for Emergency Medicine services across NHS Ayrshire and Arran working towards a single site hospital with a commitment to work across both sites until this time. Appropriate time, support and development will be provided to allow the successful individuals to flourish and realise their professional and personal ambitions and access opportunities to build and shape the future service.
University Hospital Crosshouse ED is a busy DGH, seeing 75,000 patients per year, with over 25% of these being paediatric patients. We have a dedicated paediatric area and a Minor Injuries service. From April 2021 Crosshouse will be Ayrshire’s Trauma Unit as part of the Scottish Trauma Network
University Hospital Ayr ED saw 40,000 patients in 2019. Our new department opened in February 2016 with an adjacent Combined Assessment Unit next door as part of Ayrshire & Arrans Building for Better Care project.

We support a number of Consultants with a special interest including Trauma, Retrieval Medicine, Frailty, Child Protection and Paediatric Emergency Medicine.
The Board has embarked on an ambitious ten year strategic plan entitled Caring for Ayrshire. This involves developing a new model of care across the health and care system that will enhance the wellbeing of our patients and staff and build on the existing integration our services in which we are leading the way nationally. This will offer unprecedented and exciting opportunities for ambitious new consultants to thrive within the current working environment as well as to shape future service delivery.
