Salary range: £56,611 - £77,153 per annum

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is the largest healthcare system in the UK with an annual revenue budget of £3.2 billion, employing around 39,000 staff. We deliver local services to a population of over 1.2 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included. We are now looking to appoint an inspirational, dynamic and highly creative individual who will be directly accountable to the Director of Communications and Public Engagement and will support the Board to meet its obligations in relation to engagement and involvement under the Patients’ Rights (Scotland) Act 2011 and the Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015.
This is a rare opportunity for a senior professional to embrace an exciting and varied role which interfaces at a corporate management level across the organisation and beyond in the influencing and development of regional and national strategy and requires contribution to the delivery of the Board’s overall patient and public engagement strategy and management of stakeholder engagement for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) and deputises for the Director as required.
The Deputy Director will be responsible for the leadership, management and performance of the Patient and Public Engagement Team as an integral component of the Communication and Engagement Directorate which is responsible for informing, explaining and engaging with all public stakeholders, patients and partners – including the media – on all aspects of NHSGGC and plays a key role in supporting the organisation to demonstrate transparency and accountability.
The Deputy Director will provide leadership in ensuring a coherent and effective approach to public engagement across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s work and plays a strategic role in promoting and supporting effective patient and public engagement within acute services and corporate directorates and will lead on programmes that will build capabilities and equip staff to engage and listen to patients and the public on service delivery and service change, including the Board’s feedback systems.
As a strategic thinker, able to work at pace, you will come with significant public engagement experience and a reputation for delivering effectively in a complex, organisation that has a high level of public interest.
This unique and highly visible role requires an individual with the resilience, political acumen, strategic vision, tactical skills, and above all, leadership that will impact internally and externally to the organisation.
You should be educated to degree level or equivalent experience with substantive senior management experience within a large complex organisation preferably within the NHS or Public Sector and extensive experience of working in the field of patient/public involvement, in a management role along with excellent specialist knowledge, training and experience of community engagement best practice, policies and legislative framework.
