Consultant  Haematologist -  Lymphoid Malignancy

 Applications are welcome for the above Permanent, full time (40 hours per week) post based at Western General Hospital and St John’s Hospital.

 This is an exciting opportunity for a Haematologist with a specialist interest in lymphoid malignancy to join the friendly and enthusiastic team at the Edinburgh Haematology Centre, based at the Western General and St John’s Hospitals.  The Western General hospital is the central hub for cancer services for South East Scotland, is a University teaching hospital with strong links to the University of Edinburgh medical school and a has a highly active research community working in the field of cancer. The Haematology unit is recognised at BCSH level 3 service.  The Haematology facilities are undergoing a major refurbishment with creation of a state of the art facility that include inpatient, TYA unit and co-located  day ward planned to open in May 2021.  The service is JACIE accredited for autograft transplant, and application for immune-effector cell therapy accreditation has been submitted.  The department has a thriving clinical trials portfolio with phase 1-3 trials currently open across a range of indications.  The St John’s hospital at Howden is a busy district general hospital serving the population of West Lothian and parts of Edinburgh city, offering daycase and outpatient haematology services.  A refurbished and expanded day unit opened in 2020 providing a modern and spacious facility.

This is a new post.  The successful applicant will have a good grounding in general and malignant Haematology and will contribute to inpatient and outpatient Haematology, including out-of-hours Haematology on call on a 1 in 6.6 basis.  There is a separate team for haemophilia on-call.  The candidate is expected to develop a sub-specialty interest in lymphoid malignancy.  The post is intended as full-time (10PAs, 9 DCC, 1 SPA), split with 0.6 wte at St John’s Hospital and 0.4 wte at the Western General Hospital.
