An exciting opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic nurses within 3 main acute areas within the Acute Stack within Glasgow royal Infirmary.
There are a number of new rotational posts are available to gain experience within 3 distinct areas for 4 month intervals. After this period a guaranteed post will be provided in the Acute Stack.  
Coronary Care/ Acute Cardiology Admission/Downstream Cardiology
Area that includes the acute assessment and nursing management of cardiac patients with varying, complex cardiology conditions.  Experience will be gained in cardiac monitoring, rhythm recognition, ECG Interpretation patients, and the management of the deteriorating patient.
Medical HDU and Covid HDU areas
Level 2 Nursing Care.
Responsible for the assessment and development of safe, efficient and effective care. Ongoing evaluation of critically ill patients with supervision from senior staff. A structured approach to achieving the required skills and competencies required to work in a fast paced level 2 area.
Opportunities to develop specialist knowledge in COVID disease, utilising CPAP and other aerosol generating procedures. This patient group also includes COVID positive patients who require a higher level of care pre and post ICU.  The post involves periods of time in full PPE and can be physically and emotionally challenging.
Acute medical receiving wards 
These wards include the Acute Medical Receiving Unit and short stay ward with head injury patients. These patients are from emergency and GP pathways. Within their initial admission you will gain an essential assessment skill set including accurate NEWS scoring and management of the deteriorating patient. This is an excellent area to learn about a wide range of medical conditions, including Hyper Acute Stroke, Respiratory, gastroenterology and endocrine conditions. You will learn to be proficient in veno-puncture and cannulation thus supporting immediate person centred medical and nursing care.
The rotation is for 12 months to allow this unique experience however all candidates will be offered a full time post at the end of rotation.
During rotation an expert nursing team including specialist nurses with a designated practice educator, will support you whilst you gain essential skills with patients of complex medical needs. Nursing is a strong visible directive in assuring care and setting standards with the patient in the centre of the care pathway. 
As part of the multidisciplinary team you will have responsibility for assessment of care needs and the development of programmes of care and the implementation and evaluation of these programmes ensuring the delivery of high quality care to patients within the medical department. You will provide clinical leadership for the assessment of patient needs, implementation and evaluation of care, which are evidence based. Utilising all available resources taking into consideration the lifestyle, gender and cultural background and ensure involvement with the patient, family, carers and significant others. You will empower patients to take responsibility for their health, well-being and future lifestyle by practising in an open, transparent and inclusive manner; thereby ensuring patients have the relevant information to participate in decisions about their care. 
The ability to work on your own initiative but also as part of an integrated team is required. You are required to demonstrate flexibility by working within a service. As part of this team your continuing development is forefront with access to further education and internal support with vocational modules via S.V.Q scheme and staff opportunities post fixed term contract.
It is essential that you are currently a Registered Nurse with the N.M.C trained in general nursing or adult nursing. Opportunities are also available for newly qualified staff.
As part of N.H.S Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s pre-employment checking for all appointed candidates, evidence of current N.M.C registration will be required prior to start date. You should therefore note candidates who are unable to provide confirmation of current N.M.C registration, in line with projected start date for this post, may not be shortlisted for interview.
Shifts are 11.5 hours and patterns are rotation between day and night.
