This rarely available job offers a unique opportunity for the successful candidate to manage and develop breast imaging services within the West of Scotland and to influence the future of Breast Radiology across as a whole.
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is the largest National Health Service provider in with an annual operating budget of just under £2 billion. Radiology lies within the Diagnostic Directorate which covers the whole of GG&C. Symptomatic Breast Radiology is well developed within the Diagnostics directorate with 9 digital mammography units, breast tomosynthesis on some sites, 6 MRI units most with the capability of MRI biopsy, 8 dedicated breast ultrasound units, and supported by a staff of 16 Consultants. We anticipate having contrast enhanced mammography within the coming year.
The West of Scotland Breast Screening Service is hosted within the Diagnostic Directorate and based within the city centre dedicated unit in . It is the largest Screening unit in the and one of the largest in the . It provides 3 yearly breast screening for a target population of approximately 270,000 women within Greater Glasgow and , Argyll, Lanarkshire and west Forth Valley Health Boards.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, highly skilled and experienced Breast Radiologist to lead the team of 16 specialist Breast Radiologists within Greater Glasgow and , The successful candidate will be expected to provide professional, clinical, academic and management leadership for the West of Scotland Breast Screening Service and also provide leadership within the National programme.
This job requires demonstrable management experience but remains a clinical post. It can be flexible to the needs and skills of the successful applicant. Breast Radiology screening sessions will be based at . Symptomatic Breast Radiology sessions are available mainly based within the South West Sector but can be more widely based to aid the role of team leader within the separate sectors within the Board. General Radiology sessions, are available within the South West sector, if needed, as part of the job plan.
Applicants must have full registration with the General Medical Council and be eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the should have evidence of higher Specialist Training leading to CCST and should have a minimum of 5 years post CCST experience within a job which includes Breast Radiology. Non applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.
This is a full time post as the scope and complexity of the job are likely to require this, but we would accept applications for those wishing to work less than full time.
