Secondment Opportunity (June 2021 – March 2022)

Who We Are  

NHS Education for Scotland (NES) is a national special health board that works in partnership with our stakeholders to provide education, training and workforce development for those who work in and with NHS Scotland. Our aim is to improve health and care through education. We have a Scotland-wide role in undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing professional development, we prepare professionals for practice in psychology, pharmacy, optometry and healthcare science and we provide educational development for the nursing, midwifery and allied health professions, healthcare chaplains, healthcare support workers and managers


What You'll Do

We are looking to appoint a Principal Educator to support the NES contribution to supporting cross sector workforce development in relation to Mental Health Improvement, Self- Harm and Suicide Prevention.

While this post is hosted within the NMAHP Directorate it has an organisational and cross sector remit in supporting workforce development in relation to Mental Health Improvement, Self- Harm and Suicide Prevention. You will join an established team and programme of work taken forward in close partnership with Public Health Scotland. 


Key Tasks

These will include but will not be limited to:

  • Working strategically in partnership with several key stakeholders to develop, deliver and support a portfolio of education and workforce development activities across health and social care (and the wider public sector) related to Mental Health Improvement, Self- Harm and Suicide Prevention.
  • Designing, delivering and evaluating a range of innovative educational solutions to support workforce development.
  • Developing and nurturing strong partnerships and working relationships with a range of stakeholders across the health and the social care sectors.
  • Supporting multi-professional and inter-agency approaches to learning and workforce development across the health and social care.
  • Using high level communication, influencing and relationship skills to shape and articulate NES’s contribution to workforce learning and development


What You'll Bring

Will include:

  • Educated to Masters degree
  • A Postgraduate qualification in Education
  • Registered health or social care professional
  • Significant expertise and experience working within education related to health and social care workforce development.
  • Sophisticated knowledge of the relevant policy and legislative context and an ability to work at a strategic influencing level.
  • Subject expertise in the key areas of this post.
  • Proven track record in supporting workforce development, service delivery and service and quality improvement across health or social care.
  • Excellent facilitation skills and extensive experience using range of approaches across health and social care, including technology enhanced learning.
  • A commitment to promoting Human Rights, addressing health inequalities and enhancing the participation of stakeholders.
