The Scottish Ambulance Service Fleet Department are recruiting for a Fleet Maintenance Manager to join on a permanent basis, providing departmental support divisionally and regionally, taking overall responsibility for workshops in the West Regional Area, with a maintenance budget of approximately £1 million.

The Fleet Maintenance Manager leads a team of workshop based and support staff in workshops in the West of Scotland, maintaining approximately 200 specialist front line ambulances and support vehicles, along with maintenance and repair of associated ambulance patient care equipment.

The service is currently engaged in the procurement and roll out of ‘Zero’ emissions vehicles to improve environmental challenges and the service green footprint.

The successful candidate will hold a Certificate of Professional Competence (or evidence that they are willing to work toward a respective CPC), an IOSH certificate for Health & Safety and a Higher National Certificate or Diploma would be advantageous, a recognized Fleet Management qualification, or equivalent relevant experience will be considered.

The candidate must have a minimum of five years’ experience in managing a large vehicle fleet, candidates with an emergency service back ground or having worked in a time critical LCV environment or managing workshops at a distance would be advantageous.

As above a delegated budget must be managed, ensuring the service attract best value for the public purse. The applicant should be ideally have had a time served apprenticeship, with a progressive background to a management position, this challenging position requires a comprehensive knowledge of vehicle legislation, mechanical and electrical systems.

The position may be asked to lead on Regional Projects, so should have a sound knowledge of planning, controlling and delivering small projects to set timescales and budgetary limitations.

This is a full time position working 37.5 hours Monday to Friday and will be based in the West Region. Applicants should expect to start at the minimum salary, although a higher starting salary may exceptionally be offered where a candidate's skills, knowledge and/or experience are considered to be particularly relevant and are clearly evident in the selection process.
