Applications are invited for this new post which has been made available to support the trauma and orthopaedic service as they work towards centralising the trauma service in University Hospital Crosshouse and the elective inpatient service in University Hospital Ayr.
The service is looking for a candidate to comprise a team of 18 Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeons based within NHS Ayrshire and Arran. Potential candidates should be enthusiastic to work within an elective service of excellence which has an excellent track record in maximising theatre utilisation and throughput. The successful candidate should also be excited to work with the service to develop their quality improvement programme within the trauma unit.
The successful candidate will contribute to an on call rota on a 1:18 basis. The trauma model will have a team of 3 consultants delivering the daytime trauma service with one consultant on call overnight.
1. University Hospital Ayr is a 320-bedded general hospital located to the south east of Ayr town. Ayr Hospital also provides several area-wide services for Ayrshire and Arran including Vascular Surgery and Urology.
2. University Hospital Crosshouse is a 556-bedded general hospital located on the outskirts of Kilmarnock including the co-location of the Ayrshire Maternity Unit and hosts several area-wide and one national service.
The Terms and Conditions of Service are those determined by the New Consultant Contract (Scotland) 2004 and each post is offered on a 10 programmed activity basis, although opportunities may exist for Extra Programmed Activities subject to service requirements. Applications from individuals who may wish to work on a part-time or job basis will be considered.
Applicants will be appropriately experienced, hold Full GMC Registration with a current Licence to Practice, and be on the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of Higher Specialist Training leading to CCT, or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview.
