Nuclear Medicine Physicist (Clinical Scientist)
AfC Band 8A, 12 months fixed term maternity cover
We are looking to appoint a HCPC Registered Clinical Scientist within the Nuclear Medicine Physics Section of the Department of Medical Physics, NHS Lothian to provide cover during maternity leave. This is an exciting opportunity for a Nuclear Medicine Physicist looking to progress their career working in a major teaching centre with excellent opportunities for research and development.
You will hold as a minimum an honors degree or equivalent qualification in a physical science. Full membership of IPEM and registration as a Clinical Scientist (Medical Physics) with the Health and Care Professions Council are essential. You should be a certified Medical Physics Expert (MPE) through RPA 2000 or recognised on the RPA2000 list of Medical Physics Experts. Candidates who are not currently MPEs will be considered for appointment if they are close to certification via RPA2000. Candidates with less experience will be considered for employment at a lower band.
You will join a team of 6.5 physicists providing physics support to Nuclear Medicine and related activities throughout the region. The department also provides physics support to services in Fife and Borders. The Nuclear Medicine Physics team provide support to imaging services (gamma camera, SPECT-CT, PET-CT, DEXA), non-imaging diagnostic (GFR and SLN for a variety of sites including breast, penile, head and necks, and melanoma), and therapeutic nuclear medicine (including radium-223, SIRT, iodine-131 in and outpatient services).
The Nuclear Medicine Physics section provide direct patient care via DEXA and several therapeutic services as well as providing Medical Physics Expert Services.
The post will be based primarily between the Western General Hospital, EIF-QMRI and the Royal Infirmary at Little France.
You will be involved in routine Quality Control work across all services. You will be involved in image optimisation and will provide Medical Physics Expert support under the direction of the head of Nuclear Medicine Physics. You will be involved in delivering the therapeutic nuclear medicine service pan Lothian. You will have a strong background in clinical aspects of nuclear medicine, legislation and compliance with the radiation regulations.
