Salary Scale Band 6 £32,118 - £39,560 per annum
Salary Scale Band 5 (newly qualified appointment) £25,351 - £31,966 per annum
(Subject to Annexe T progression to Band 6)
This is a very exciting opportunity for an experienced, motivated and forward thinking Orthoptist with good clinical experience and knowledge, along with excellent communication skills to join our friendly team of 7 Orthoptists, 9 Ophthalmologist and 5 Optometrists currently based in Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be involved in transforming services to deliver appropriate models of service delivery to meet ophthalmology patient demand located in the new National Treatment Centre for the North of Scotland, which is planned to open in September 2022. This new building on the University of Highlands and Islands campus will contain a purpose built Ophthalmology Outpatient, Theatre and Ward area.
The Orthoptic Service provides a full range of Paediatric and Adult Orthoptic Services at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness and to several peripheral clinics throughout the remote and rural communities of the Highlands, Western Isles and Orkney. We also provide See4School Orthoptic Vision Screening to all of these areas.
The post holder will therefore have the opportunity to see the Highlands of Scotland travelling by road, air and sea, and staying overnight occasionally which requires a flexible approach t the working pattern, including possible weekend and evening work.
We are also a clinical placement site for Orthoptic Undergraduates.
A full driving licence is required.
The post requires a diploma / degree in Orthoptics with current HCPC registration. We would consider applications from newly qualified practitioners as well as experienced orthoptists. New graduates would be expected to start on Band 5 and complete the NHS Flying Start program. Mentorship would be provided and over the course of 12 – 24 months the post holder would progress to Band 6 to fulfil the role requirement
