Job Advert - QUEEN ELIZABETH UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL CRF CLINICAL TRIALS SERVICE – Band 5 Pharmacy Technician – 1.0wte 1 year fixed term secondment opportunity based at QEUH.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Pharmacy Technician to join the Pharmacy Clinical Trials Service in NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. Primarily based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH) Campus in Glasgow, you will provide technical support to the existing Pharmacy Clinical Trials Team and also provide specialist clinical trial support to the Aseptic Team onsite, whilst participating in the routine workload of the unit. 

You will also support the wider Dispensary Team within the QEUH and Royal Hospital for Children (RHC) in relation to clinical trials activity. 

Candidates must be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council and posses a technician checking qualification (PACT or DCT)


A varied range of commercial and non-commercial clinical trials are hosted within the QEUH RHC Campus ranging from Phase I to Phase IV studies.  There are two clinical trials pharmacy dispensing areas within the QEUH/RHC Campus – one located within QEUH and the other within the Sackler Adult & Paediatric Clinical Research Facility.  You will be part of a team who split their time in each location as needed to meet service demands.  


Pharmacy has strong working relationships with the Research and Development Department and NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde which is Sponsor for a number of clinical trials.


Your key duties will include managing the day to day workload of the Clinical Trials Dispensary which includes the oversight of preparation and dispensing of all investigational medicinal products to trial participants.  The presentations include oral medication and novel products in development but this list is not exhaustive.  You will have supervisory and training responsibility for other technical and support staff within the Clinical Trials Dispensary Service.


This is a full-time post: 37.5 hours will be worked 5 over 7 days with participation in weekend and public holiday working on occasion.
