As a vital part of NHS Scotland, NHS National Services Scotland’s (NSS) mission is to enable and support the delivery of better health and better care, working in partnership. We do this by providing a range of specialised support services that enable NHS Boards to focus their efforts on delivering health improvement and patient care.
As part of the Digital and Security (DaS) Strategic Business Unit supporting NSS and the wider NHS, Health Boards, Scottish Government and other Public Services across Scotland, the local infrastructure team is looking to recruit a Principal Engineer to enhance its MS SQL Server support capability as the usage of SQL Server increases as a result of the drive to host services in the MS Azure cloud environment.
The expansion is driven by an exciting transformation as part of the DaS platform modernisation programme developing a world class Enterprise cloud capability to meet the increasing demand for digital services to services our customers throughout Scotland.
The post holder will be expected to provide SQL Server DBA support as part of a wider team, both on on-prem infrastructure and in the Azure cloud.
Responsibilities
- SQL Server administration, including tuning, monitoring, configuration and problem resolution
- Technical leadership in architecture and design of SQL Server solutions
- Developing best practices and knowledge assets to be re-usable and shared across NSS community
- Actively contributing to a culture of high performance, innovation and continuous improvement.
Education and Experience
- Hands on experience in administering SQL Server databases
- Hands on experience in designing and deploying SQL Server solutions, including HA deployments
- Experience with public cloud platforms
- Appropriate certifications in MS SQL Server
General Requirements
- Strong experience with all aspects of Microsoft SQL Server database administration
- Experience of working with SQL Server PaaS in Azure
- Experienced in working in agile environment
- Experience with Oracle RDBMS would be advantageous
