Job Advert

The post holder does not have to be based in Inverness – an Inverness presence would be required on occasion – depending upon activity.

NHS Highland has opportunities for talented Programme and Project Management professionals to join the Health Board’s Programme Management Office (PMO) in 2 areas:-

  • Financial Improvement
  • Performance Improvement

NHS Highland is geographically the largest Health Board in Scotland, covering an area of 32,500 km² from Kintyre in the south-west to Caithness in the north-east, serving a population of 320,000 people.

The Health Board is engaged in a transformation agenda including the introduction of the first NHS Scotland National Treatment Centre in 2022, a new build for Belford Hospital in Fort William and a re-design of services in Caithness General Hospital.  NHS Highland is committed to meet its patients’ needs and future expectations.

The Health Board is enhancing its project management resource to support the clinical and corporate functions in transforming their operations whilst continuing to deliver excellent services and maximising improvement opportunities.

It is accepted this is a challenging task in the present NHS financial climate with pressure on resources, however the PMO has the full support and leadership from the Board of Directors who have committed significant resources to ensure it is both successful and rewarding.

The core principles of the PMO are delivery, problem solving and assurance of implementing complex change.  We are looking for candidates that have strong practice within all these disciplines along with operational or transformation change experience across at least one of the following areas: Bed Utilisation and Flow, Outpatients, Diagnostics, Medical Productivity, Nursing Productivity, Prescribing Services, Mental Health and Primary and Community care.

The PMO has the responsibility for both leading and governing major programmes of work across the organisation with the aim of ensuring clinically sustainable and financially viable services.

You will be an ambitious driven individual, who may be a general manager, clinician or existing project manager seeking to improve the quality and efficiency of services in conjunction with operational teams. You will see this as a way to demonstrate your passion for delivery, commitment and energy to see things through, coupled with your ability to apply the best and most innovative thinking to your role.

The post holder must have proven project management skills within a cost or performance improvement programme, be able to demonstrate a methodical and structured approach and the ability to communicate with staff at all levels in the organisation.

This is a great opportunity to be at the heart of an evolving organisation that has already made significant steps on its improvement journey. Make no mistake; these are exciting times at NHS Highland, as we look to build upon the strong foundations of recovery following the recent Sturrock report and Scottish Government approved plan to return to financial balance.

For an informal discussion about the post, please contact Jane Gill, PMO Director on 01463 704853.

Closing date for completed Applications:  21st May 2021

It is planned to hold face-to-face interviews in Inverness on 1st and 2nd June 2021.

Please note that we are unable to accept late applications
