Job Advert

This is an exciting opportunity to apply for this newly created Consultant post to support the increased workload, expansion and development of the Cardiology Department at NHS Grampian. The post-holder will be joining a team of eleven Cardiologists.

The successful applicant will be based in the Department of Cardiology, at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. NHS Grampian serves a population of 620,000, including patients from NHS Orkney and NHS Shetland.  The Department is part of the Acute Services directorate, Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

The Cardiology Department provides Elective and Acute Coronary Intervention including a 24 hour Primary PCI service (around 1000 PCIs performed annually), Brady and Complex Pacing device insertion, as well as an invasive Electrophysiology service in our two dedicated stateofthe art Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratories.

There is a busy Echocardiography department, performing Transthoracic, Transoesophageal, Contrast and Bubble Echo, 3D Echo and Stress Echocardiography. We have recently purchased two Philips EpiqCVx Echocardiography platforms to support our advanced Echo service and TAVI service and have four GE Echo platforms for Transthoracic Echocardiography.  All advanced Cardiac imaging modalities are readily available, including Coronary CT, Cardiac MRI, PET, Myocardial Perfusion Scintigraphy, and DPD scanning for Cardiac Amyloid.

The in–patient Cardiac department consists of a 10 bedded Coronary Care Unit and a 30 bedded in-patient Cardiology ward, both contained within the new Emergency Care Centre. There is also a 16 bedded Day Case ward adjacent to the Cardiac Catheterisation labs.

There will be ample opportunity to maintain and develop subspecialist skills, depending on the interest and skills of the applicant. Sub-speciality areas that would be considered are Cardiac Imaging (Echocardiography + any advanced imaging modality including Nuclear Cardiology, CMR or Cardiac CT).

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from date of interview or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR).

Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC is required. For more information visit www.gmc-uk.org
