Job Advert

As a major division within the NHS National Services Scotland, the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) plays a vital role not only in the health of the people of Scotland but also on an international scale – through our leading position in new product development, biomedical research and donor services.  Our goal is to maintain the highest standards in patient care whilst remaining Internationally competitive.

The role of the SNBTS Quality Directorate is to develop and deliver a Quality Management System throughout SNBTS which satisfies regulatory requirements whilst ensuring a high quality, efficient transfusion process from “donor to patient”. Members of this team require to be forward thinking and imaginative with the drive and self-motivation to relish a challenge.

An opportunity has arisen within the Quality Directorate team for a Quality Officer to be appointed in the South East Scotland Blood Transfusion Centre, including Patient and Donor Services activities. The post involves providing quality support to the clinical laboratories, blood donation centre and clinical apheresis unit. The post is based in the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, although there will be a requirement to regularly visit the Lauriston Building and Jack Copland Centre (Heriot Watt Campus) sites.

Applicants for this post should hold an Honours/Masters Degree in Biomedical Science acceptable to the Health & Care Professions Council or equivalent qualification, with post-qualification experience in Transfusion Science, Haematology or Microbiology disciplines being the most relevant. In addition, experience in the operation of a Quality Management System and an interest in the development of Quality Improvement is highly desirable. The applicant must have excellent organisational skills, communication skills, attention to detail and be able to interact with people at all levels when relevant, and to work well under the pressure of meeting tight deadlines. Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation bodies is desirable.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a Disclosure/Disclosure Scotland check. Any candidate who has worked overseas for more than 3 months will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.

NHS Agenda for Change terms and conditions apply to this post based on experience and qualifications. Currently there is no routine requirement for “out of hours” or shift working for this post.
