East of Scotland Regional Genetic Service

Healthcare Science Practitioner

Band 5 (£25,351- £31,966 per annum pro rata)

Fixed Term – 6 Months


A fixed-term position for 6 months in the fist instance, has become available within the Genetic Service for a Healthcare Science Practitioner. Applicants should have an Honours Degree in an appropriate biological science or SVQ Level4 or equivalent in Science with a Biology component. Knowledge of bioinformatics in healthcare would be desirable.The successful candidate will assist with a number of defined development projects, working closely with a Clinical Scientist. Work undertaken by the post-holder will be used to inform patient results and consequently they must work in a careful and meticulous manner and adhere to all laboratory standard operating procedures. As a Practitioner you will be working as part of a team that includes Assistants, Associates Senior Practitioners and Clinical Scientists.

The Regional Genetic Service is a large friendly team of Technical, Scientific and Clinical staff who provide a first-class service to patients and families from Tayside /NE Fife and elsewhere in Scotland. The Service offers modern, well equipped facilities situated within Ninewells Hospital. This is an excellent opportunity for suitably motivated applicants to further their career within the NHS and gain experience within a diagnostic Genetic Service.
