Job Advert
In support of our core purpose of Working together to achieve the healthiest life possible for everyone in Ayrshire and Arran we are committed to a culture that is Caring, Safe and Respectful. You are required to work collaboratively in a safe, caring and respectful way.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced clinical pharmacist to participate in the provision of high quality pharmaceutical services within Women and Children’s Services within the Ayrshire Maternity Unit (AMU).
The service delivers excellent ante-natal and post-natal care to women within Ayrshire who have the option to deliver with midwife-led or obstetric-led care. Opportunities have been identified for a Pharmacist Independent Prescriber to join the multi-disciplinary team and utilise their clinical skills and knowledge to promote safe and effective prescribing to maternity inpatients and outpatients. You will be responsible for the development, provision, management and evaluation of a highly specialised clinical pharmacy service to the AMU, as part of a highly motivated team of pharmacists currently working within Neonatal and Paediatrics.
NHS Ayrshire & Arran is a pilot site for the Scottish Government initiative “The Best Start: five year plan for maternity and neonatal care”. The collaborative approach set out in ‘The Best Start’ will provide the post holder with the chance to work closely with the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement prescribing guidance, which will ensure the safe and effective use and storage of medicines by women who may capably manage them routinely, and who may be taking these medicines for obstetric and non-obstetric conditions.
Additionally, NHS Ayrshire & Arran has also established postnatal contraceptive programme. You will be required to continue the development of the post pregnancy contraceptive care pathway in close collaboration with maternity services, community services, sexual health and public health. You will utilise your prescribing qualification to provide post-natal contraception in a timely fashion, and monitor the impact on inter-pregnancy intervals and abortion rates.
Your role will be pivotal in contributing to the wider development and quality improvement of pharmaceutical services provided to patients attending AMU, whether they plan to deliver in hospital or at home. You shall need to possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work effectively as part of the multidisciplinary team, have relevant clinical experience and a willingness to explore non-traditional pharmacist roles, such as the prescribing and administration of selected LARCs.
NHS Ayrshire & Arran benefits from automated dispensing and electronic prescribing and you will also require to support the strategic implementation of the Hospital Electronic Medicines Prescribing and Administration (HEPMA) system within Ayrshire Maternity Unit.
You will participate in weekend, public holiday, on call rotas and extended hours as required. In accordance with AFC terms and conditions you may be required to work over 7 days and/or an extended working day.
Informal enquiries are welcomed by Lynsay Lawless or Jill Swan, Principal Pharmacists Clinical Services, University Hospital Crosshouse, Tel: 01563 826074.
