An exciting opportunity has arisen for band 5 registered nurses to join our integrated stroke unit in Forth Valley Royal Hospital. The ward is a 23 bedded acute stroke unit within the medical directorate, which provides 24 hour stroke assessment and ongoing care. We are looking to appoint enthusiastic, highly motivated nurses with a passion for delivering excellent standards of care even under pressure. You should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. As part of the multi-disciplinary team work closely within the stroke services and also have regular contact with other specialties within the hospital and community setting.
You will have the opportunity to learn and develop specialist skills in the assessment and care of the stroke patient. Alongside the Stroke consultant you will be involved in the assessment of patients in the A+E department when thrombolysis treatment is being considered. This is also an exciting time in stroke care as the introduction to thrombectomy service will be implemented by the end of this year 2021. This involves more specialized training in order to provide the safe transfer of patients to the receiving hospital. You will be supported in your role with ongoing training which includes the completion of specific stroke care competencies and Stroke and TIA assessment. As part of the multi-disciplinary team the post holder will have the responsibility for assessment, delivery and supervision of the care needs or their patients.
You will play an integral role in the stroke pathway by liaising closely with the staff in AAU and A&E to ensure smooth and timely and appropriate transfer of patients to the Acute Stroke Unit, In line with the current Stroke improvement plan (HEAT targets).
You will have the opportunity to progress your own professional development and gain specialist knowledge and skills by having access to a range of informal learning opportunities and also CPD sessions.
The successful applicant must demonstrate an interest and understand the complexities of caring for patients with strokes. Although not essential ideally the post holder would have stroke experience and an awareness of the core and advanced stroke care modules. You will be expected to act as a positive role model to junior and unregistered staff, demonstrating an interest in the development of the unit and working towards maintaining and improving the standards of care.
