SIMULATION TECHICIAN & PRACTITIONER – CLINICAL SKILLS

We have an exciting opportunity within the Institute of Education in Medical & Dental Sciences (IEMDS) as one of a team of academic, technical, administrative, and clerical staff who support the Medical and Physician Associate degree programmes. You will work closely with the Lead for Simulation, the Director of Clinical Skills and the Clinical Skills Centre (CSC) Manager in delivering an excellent simulated learning environment incorporating key aspects of different clinical environments. Your base will be in the Suttie Centre for Teaching and Learning in Healthcare at our Foresterhill Campus which provides educational resources for both the University of Aberdeen and NHS Grampian. In addition, you will be required to support simulation education and training in the Simulation & Training Centre (STC) within ARI and in clinical areas across NHS Grampian. You will have a lead role in maintaining the simulation equipment and will maintain and develop the simulation facilities in the Suttie Centre and STC, ensuring that these reflect current clinical practice.
You will provide the technical support and also demonstrations of simulation equipment to course leaders and other centre users including medical staff, students, nursing staff, allied health professionals and other healthcare staff in the CSC, STC and where simulation is being undertaken in a clinical environment. You will also participate in clinical simulation scenarios through role play and contributing to learning conversations (debriefs). You will be involved in demonstrating simulation equipment to the public including school pupils at promotional events e.g. medical school open days, Techfest. The post holder will also have duties supporting the educational resource provided by the Suttie Centre generally, working.
The ideal candidate for this post will have clinical qualification e.g. be a registered nurse, operating department practitioner or hold another healthcare degree. Recent practical experience in a clinical setting is also essential as is a strong understanding of teaching within clinical settings.
Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 5 salary scale (£28,332 - £31,865 per annum) and negotiable with placement according to qualifications and experience.
