Job Advert
The Breast Service at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary would like to invite candidates to apply for a full time Breast Surgeon. This vacancy is a proleptic appointment to enable one of the existing consultants to work less than full-time for a number of years leading up to retirement.
The inpatient service provides care for residents of NHS Grampian, NHS Orkney and NHS Shetland; it also delivers highly complex tertiary surgical care for a small number of patients referred from NHS Highland and Tayside. There are around 500 new breast cancers treated each year. All associated specialties including the Breast Screening Centre, Plastic Surgery and the regional Clinical Genetics Service are located on site.
The successful candidate will join five Consultant Breast Surgeons (currently 4.5WTE) within a strong multidisciplinary team. It is an exciting time for the service as building of the new Baird Family Hospital is underway with a completion date in 2023. The Breast Service, including screening, will be co-located with all Women’s services in this new state-of-the-art facility.
Candidates must demonstrate sub-speciality training in the full range of Breast Surgery. Experience in Oncoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery would be an advantage.
There is an out-of-hours on-call rota 1:5 (plus prospective cover) with attracts a level 1 availability supplement of 8%.
Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview.
Alternatively, applicants should possess a CESR / CESR (CP).
Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made. Whilst in locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR / CESR (CP) and entry onto the Specialist Register can be made
