A fantastic opportunity has arisen through retirement for a self-motivated and enthusiastic individual to take forward this challenging role to lead and manage our very busy departments of Haematology, Immunology and Blood Transfusion including the hospital Phlebotomy Services.
NHS Ayrshire and Arran Health board are situated within a 30-minute train or car drive from Glasgow. The Haematology service is embarking on a period of transformational change developing new models of care, in line with our ‘Caring for Ayrshire’ vision.
As Head of Haematology , Immunology and Blood transfusion services you will be responsible for managing approximately 50 scientific and technical staff and 20 phlebotomy staff in the department providing services to our two main district general hospitals and also our 65 GP surgeries within the catchment area
The applicant will be a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Registered Biomedical Scientist and have attained Fellowship of the IBMS, MSc in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent and have extensive experience managing a team within a complex environment. Possession of a formal management qualification would be advantageous.
Candidates should possess an advanced scientific knowledge of Haematology and/or Blood Transfusion and be able to demonstrate considerable experience of staff support and supervision. A robust understanding of laboratory and hospital information systems is essential along with an awareness of the requirements regarding UKAS, MHRA and Quality Management standards
