This is an exciting post which has arisen within the Maxillofacial Laboratory based in the University Hospital Crosshouse (UHC). The Consultant Maxillofacial Prosthetist will manage the multidisciplinary Oral Facial Laboratory situated at UHC and manage the provision of a highly skilled specialist Maxillofacial Prosthetic and Technical Service for NHS Ayrshire & Arran; providing scientific and advisory services to patients for their rehabilitation and restoration within key areas of craniofacial reconstructions, congenital malformations of the face, jaw and head and neck malignancies.
This post is primarily responsible for directly managing, supervising and training 1 x Principal Maxillofacial Prosthetist/Deputy of Service, 1 x Maxillofacial Prosthetist/Highly Specialist Orthodontic Technician, 1 x Specialist Prosthodontic/Orthodontic Technician, 1 x Dental Technician, 1 x Healthcare Support Worker, students when allocated, managing one personal secretary to the Oral Facial Laboratory department, and directly providing clinical technical and advisory services to the following specialties.
• Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
• Orthodontic Service
• Advanced Restorative Dentistry
• Ear, Nose and Throat Service
• Ophthalmology Service
All posts provide technical advice / services to clinical and surgical colleagues in addition to 1:1 patient treatment for prosthetic rehabilitation.
Professional Qualifications:
BSc Dental Technology
+
Scientist Training Programme in Reconstructive Science (MSc)
Or
MSc Maxillofacial/Craniofacial Rehabilitation/(MSc Med Sci) plus yr. accredited scientific practice (ASP)
Or
Historical Equivalent
Post graduate diploma in Orthodontics or Prosthodontic Technology specialty would be advantageous
Registration with the General Dental Council is essential.
Full membership of the Institute of Maxillofacial Prosthetists & Technologists is highly desirable.
Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (Scientific Training Programme Equivalence) is highly desirable.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years practise as a Senior/Principal Maxillofacial Prosthetist
Substantial laboratory management, leadership or supervisory experience would be advantageous
In depth knowledge of Ocular Prosthetics
Substantial experience in Orthodontic and Prosthodontic technology
