The role of the department is to provide high quality mental health services to a client group defined as having complex mental health needs, within the South of Glasgow. The focus of the service is to provide activity which promotes and encourages the development of social skills preventing isolation. It also facilitates access to a wider network of social contacts. The Recreational Therapy Assistant is responsible for delivering therapeutic activities to clients with mental health difficulties, under the professional guidance of a Registered Nurse. The post holder is expected to
Utilise recreational skills to coordinate, develop and facilitate a flexible client centred programme of therapeutic activity within inpatient and community settings.
Plan, implement and evaluate activities as part of client treatment programme.
Provide guidance for staff within programmed activities as agreed with registered nurse.
Undertake activities and duties within in-patient and community settings without direct supervision.

Duties and responsibilities are subject to an ongoing activities review
You should have formal creative/technical skills which can be utilised within treatment planning and a wide range of knowledge of the kinds of activity involved in planned sessions of Recreational Therapy.
