Applications are invited for the appointment of a Consultant in General Surgery with a specialist interest in Colorectal Surgery and Abdominal Wall Reconstruction at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
The successful candidate will support the delivery of Colorectal services and develop the complex Abdominal Wall Reconstruction service with the Plastic surgical team.
The Consultant will work alongside the established team of seven Colorectal surgeons and will play a full role on the general surgical on-call. The Colorectal unit provides a wide range of Colorectal services. This includes minimally invasive surgery (including Robotic Surgery), Pelvic Cancer work with Urology, joint operating with the Gynaecology and Orthopaedic teams.
The candidate should have a strong research portfolio and a demonstrated interest and experience in teaching and training.
The post is based in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and is full time. The post may include a service commitment to Dr Gray’s Hospital, Elgin (DGH) and Stracathro Hospital (SRTC) such as day case surgery and out-patient clinics. The frequency of the service commitment at DGH and SRTC will be agreed in the individual job plan.

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview.
Alternatively, applicants should possess a CESR / CESR (CP).
Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made. Whilst in locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR / CESR (CP) and entry onto the Specialist Register can be made.
