Job Advert
Applications are invited for 5 LAT posts at CT2/CT3 (equivalent) and ST3 level, within the North of Scotland Anaesthetic Training Programme. Applicants for any level of Speciality training will be considered for the ST3 posts and these will be allocated according to training needs of candidates selected at the interview. It is likely that 2 additional LAT-ST posts may also become available at the time of interviews.
The North of Scotland Anaesthetic Training Programme is delivered through Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in Aberdeen and Raigmore Hospital in Inverness. Two of the above Core posts and 3 ST posts are based in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. Two posts will be based in Raigmore Hospital. These arrangements are subject to change to facilitate training needs of the 2021 Anaesthesia Curriculum.
While every attempt will be made to allocate posts as suggested above, it may also be necessary for the appointees to rotate across the two hospital sites to broaden their clinical experience.
These posts commence from 4th of August 2021 for a period of 12 months.
Brief Description of the programme:
The Anaesthetics Training Programme in The North of Scotland is based in Inverness (CT1- ST4) and Aberdeen (CT1-ST7). Both hospitals have most major surgical specialties on a single site. This allows the novice trainee a stable environment for developing a career and the more experienced trainee an opportunity to experience working in a large DGH as well as a Tertiary Referral Centre. Particularly in Inverness, trainees do however visit more rural sites for clinics.
Aberdeen and Inverness, although apparently geographically isolated, are in fact well served by air, rail and road and uniquely allow quick and easy access to the wild and spectacular scenery of Royal Deeside and the Highlands - internationally famed for hill walking, climbing, golf and in a good year even skiing! Both Inverness and Aberdeen have vibrant modern city centers with good retail, cultural and dining experiences. They are both great places to live and bring up families.
The Aberdeen Medical School is on site, with many opportunities to become involved in student teaching. Students rotate through Anaesthetics at various times in their degree programme, and Anaesthetics trainees are actively involved in delivering medical education.
Applicants should refer to the National Person Specification 2021 (Anaesthetics CT2/ST3) to confirm their eligibility for this post, available at https://specialtytraining.hee.nhs.uk/Recruitment/Person-specifications
