 Pathology Operational Science Manager Band 8A

 Cellular Pathology Department – NHS Lothian

Full time permanent post 37.5 hrs/week (Monday - Friday)

 Salary Scale band 8A: £45,446 - £51,883 per annum

 An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified individual with proven management and organisational skills to apply for the Operational Science Manager’s post within Cellular Pathology.  Applicants must be innovative, motivated and suitably experienced to manage the second largest Cellular Pathology Department within Scotland.  The Cellular Pathology Department provides routine Histopathology, Cytopathology and Mortuary services as well as specialist Histopathologist services including Neuropathology, Paediatric Pathology, BMS Dissection and Mohs’ Clinics.  The Department is ISO 15189 UKAS accredited and is the first Pathology Department in the UK to attain flexible scope for its IHC section.

The Cellular Pathology Department operates across four sites in Lothian; the RIE and WGH sites are fully staffed with satellite labs at SJH and RHSC for frozen section provision.  Qualified BMS staff also attend the Dermatology Mohs clinic at the Lauriston site.  Mortuary or bodystore provision is provided at the RIE, WGH and SJH sites.  Cellular Pathology Department also provides full services for NHS Borders as well as specialist pathology services for other NHS Scotland boards. 

Working closely with an experienced Pathology team, our ideal candidate will be HCPC registered, educated to MSc level or equivalent, have a formal management qualification with experience of managing within Pathology services. A proven record of accomplishment within Training, Quality Management or Health & Safety would be a further advantage.  Evidence of active participation in Continuing Professional Development is required.
