Applications are invited for a clinical development fellow post in Obstetrics and Gynaecology which is available from August 2021 until August 2022. This post is available at the new Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary and is aimed at those doctors who have recently completed their foundation programme or core training. 

This post will afford a successful applicant the opportunity to gain experience in obstetrics, gynaecology and paediatrics as well as protected and mentored development time. Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary is currently implementing the Best Start Five Year Plan for Scottish maternity services, and is engaged in quality improvement work through the Maternity and Children Quality Improvement Collaborative (MCQIC). The successful candidate will be encouraged to partake in quality improvement work within our strategic framework for improvement Women’s Health in the region.

Successful candidates will be contracted for up to 48 hours per week: 36 hours per week on average including out-of hours commitment. Undertaking clinical activities; 12 hours per week on average protected for developmental activities. The post holder will be paid at StR level based on their previous experience. A banding supplement relevant to the OOH component of their rotas will be paid in addition to the basic salary for 40 hours. 

Your appointment will be subject to the Terms and Conditions of Service of Hospital Medical and Dental Staff and Doctors and Dentists in Public Health Medicine and the Community Health Service (Scotland). 

NHS Dumfries and Galloway proudly serve a population of approximately 148,500 but within a large geographical area of about 2,400 square miles. Dumfries and Galloway stretches from Langholm in the East to Drummore in the West, and from Kirkconnel and Carsphairn in the North down to Sandyhills on the Solway Coast. Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary is based in Dumfries and is the main hospital for the region providing a wide range of inpatient and outpatient health services.  The Galloway Community Hospital serves Stranraer and the west of the region; it is an intermediate unit providing maternity services, as well as medical & surgical beds.  There are bedded units within eight cottage hospitals which provide care services such as minor injuries units.  Midpark Hospital provides inpatient facilities for mental health patients.
