A part-time (3 hours per week) opportunity has arisen in the Imaging Physics service within the Department of Medical Physics, NHS Lothian. Please note: As this post is part-time the salary will be pro-rata.

In your role within the team you will act as functional MRI image analysis lead, providing image analysis and data quality assurance to the pre-surgical fMRI service.

You will manage the fMRI processing pipeline for brain activation mapping of patients scanned prior to surgery. You will produce activation maps for use by neuroradiologists in preparation of their clinical report, advising on data quality as appropriate. Over time it is anticipated that pre-surgical fMRI scanning and analysis will relocate to NHS Lothian scanner and IT facilities. As part of this service reprovision, you will provide ad hoc advice and training to NHS Lothain staff on aspects of data acquisition, analysis and interpretation.

You will report to the Head of Imaging Physics and will liaise with consultant neuororadiologists, radiographers and MRI physicists as required.

You will hold as a minimum an honours degree or equivalent qualification in a physical or medical science or engineering. You will have significant experience of clinical functional MRI protocol implementation, testing, data analysis and clinical reporting. Extensive experience in handling and anonymising DICOM data is also essential. A PhD and/or research experience in the field of fMRI is desirable.

At NHS Lothian we have a strong commitment to staff development, engagement and positive staff experience. We strive to provide high quality, safe, effective and person-centred healthcare, continually improving clinical outcomes for patients who use our services and for our population as a whole, through the application of NHS Lothian’s core values of quality, teamwork, care & compassion, dignity & respect, and openness, honesty and responsibility.
