NHS Highland are seeking a high calibre, motivated, caring and compassionate nurse for a new role of Head of Nursing- Mental Health and Learning Disability. The role has been designed to give greater leadership, parity and visibility of the key role and functions offered by Mental Health and Learning Disability nurses across the organisation.


The Head of Nursing – Mental Health and Learning Disability is a pivotal role, based within the Mental Health Division  (Highland HSCP) and  contributing to the senior nurse leadership structure within the wider board. The divisional senior management and leadership team where this post will sit has responsibility for the management of clinical, care, financial and staff governance. The post will also support Mental Health and Learning Disability nurses employed within other areas of the board.


The post holder will be accountable for professional standards in Mental Health nursing, specifically (but not exclusively) workforce planning, workforce development and clinical standards. The post holder will be accountable for ensuring the best possible patient experience is delivered through high quality; person centred clinical practice and service delivery, interfacing with all other disciplines to implement change and to support the full integration of nursing within the wider HSCP, whilst at the same time, ensuring that local and national nursing agendas, policies and initiatives are influenced and delivered. The post will also take managerial and leadership responsibility for the board wide chaplaincy and spiritual care service.


If you are a Registered Mental Health or Learning Disability nurse, with extensive leadership experience, recent clinical practice in mental health or learning disability services and educated to Masters level (or equivalent), then please get in touch. Knowledge of national nursing priorities and the ability to translate these into strategy and implementation will be essential.
