Following a review of the dementia nursing requirements in Shetland an exciting new post has been developed to provide clinical leadership for our dementia service. The Nurse Consultant will provide strategic direction, support dementia service improvement/evaluation and act as an expert clinician providing nurse led services and providing clinical advice to support the decision making of a range of other health and care professions.
The Dementia Nurse Consultant will lead on the ongoing implementation of dementia standards, national and local strategies as well as the dementia service remobilisation and recovery plan. The Nurse Consultant will also have a specific remit to support the development of practice and patient safety principles in the Hospital setting.
Applicants must be innovative and resourceful to meet the challenges of the remote and rural area of practice. This will involve working across professional and organisational boundaries, in partnership and in collaboration with others including service users, carers, health professionals, social work, voluntary sector staff, and local education providers.
The post holder will be a key member of the senior clinical team of the Community Mental Health Department. Applicants must have current registration with the NMC, clinical experience at Advanced Clinical Nurse Specialist level and a master’s degree in a relevant programme to support advanced practice dementia care, to be appointed as a Nurse Consultant.
This post can also be offered as a development opportunity so applicants who do not currently meet all of the criteria will be considered as a Trainee Nurse Consultant and a learning contract put in place to support your development to work towards the Nurse Consultant competencies set out in the job description. If this is the case the post holder will commence on a lower banding and on completion of development progress to Band 8a salary
