Permanent (Secondment may be considered) - 37.5hrs per week.

Edinburgh or Glasgow - with remote working for the foreseeable future


An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Healthcare Improvement Scotland as its Head of Communications to support the organisation in its work to enable the people of Scotland to experience the best quality of health and social care.

Reporting to the Chief Executive, this role will be responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive communications strategy for Healthcare Improvement Scotland and provide leadership for the staff and resources in the Communications Department. In addition the post holder will be responsible for providing communications, marketing, media and reputation management advice to the NHS Board, Executive Team and other senior managers.  The postholder will also be a member of the Executive Team and contribute to our corporate decision-making. 

We are looking for an enthusiastic and focused individual with the vison to develop our communications strategy to meet the ever changing needs of a growing and successful organisation.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong track record of achievement in communications; excellent knowledge of a broad range of communication channels and tools and their use;  strong interpersonal skills and an ability to influence across a broad range of internal and external audiences at all levels.

Knowledge and an understanding of the UK NHS and the Scottish political framework gained through previous work experience in NHSScotland or the wider public sector would be a distinct advantage in this role.
