Somatic Programme Manager, Band 8B

Permanent 37.5 hrs per week   


Applications are invited for the post of Somatic Programme Manager within the Laboratory Genetics department, which forms part of the West of Scotland Centre for Genomic Medicine. The department provides a high quality genetics service to the West of Scotland, population 2.7 million, and to the whole of Scotland through the Scottish Genetic Laboratories Consortium and the Scottish Molecular Pathology Consortium.  Based at the state of the art Laboratory Medicine building at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, the Laboratory Genetics department is responsible for the testing of inherited genetic disease and acquired genetic disease (solid and haematological malignancy). 


You will join our team of >115 scientific and technical staff working closely with the Head of Service and other senior management to strategically plan the direction of the Somatic Programme, and to implement new services and technologies. We seek a motivated scientist with proven knowledge, enthusiasm and drive who will rise to the challenges of this exciting post.


It is essential that you are state registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), have upper second or first class honours degree in a relevant scientific subject and be in possession of a higher qualification such as FRCPath part 1 (working towards FRCPath), a PhD or equivalent. You should have extensive experience in a genetics diagnostic laboratory and in the diagnosis of somatic genetic disease (molecular genetics and/or cytogenetics), and have extensive experience with managing and directing staff.


The shift pattern for this post is Monday - Friday 9.00am - 5.00pm.
