Band 4 - Major Trauma Service

Rehabilitation Assistant Practitioner

Permanent

Both full time and part time applications will be considered

An exciting opportunity has arisen for multiple Rehabilitation Assistant Practitioners to join the rehabilitation team working within the new Major Trauma Service at the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh. The post holders will support the delivery of intensive rehabilitation to patients who have suffered complex multisystem injury. The service will be based at the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh which is set to become the Major Trauma Centre for the South East region of the Scottish Trauma Network in late Summer 2021.

You will be allocated a delegated patient caseload by the registered Allied Health Professionals (Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy and Dietetics) delivering holistic rehabilitative interventions.  You will work independently and as part of the multidisciplinary team, assessing the patient’s rehab needs and/or modifying existing treatment plans and delivering this care without supervision.  This includes progressing patients, reassessing and supporting discharge planning within the scope of practice.

This post will cover the breadth of the Major Trauma Service, working between the dedicated acute inpatient Major Trauma Ward at the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh and with the Supported Discharge Team working in the community. The Supported Discharge team provides short term rehabilitation in patients homes to Orthopaedic and Major Trauma patients, promoting flow by facilitating early discharge from the acute setting and supporting the patients transition back into the community and independent living.

Candidates must be motivated and enthusiastic, displaying evidence of experience working within health, social care or independent sector managing a delegated caseload and have a good awareness of role of the Allied Health Professions. Previous experience working in a rehabilitation setting is desirable.

Successful candidates will be supported to develop knowledge and skills across the breadth of the Allied Health Professions via training and development through appraisal processes, supervision and CPD opportunities.

There is a regular weekend working commitment (1:8), and weekend working days are balanced with days off on weekdays.

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/ record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.
