Infrastructure Technical Specialist

This technical specialist role is within the Desktop management & Application Provision team. The technical specialist will be required to take a lead role in both support and project work.

Desktop management & Application Provision:- NHSGG&C has over 800 applications ranging from Microsoft products to bespoke software, the vast majority of which are provisioned centrally utilising application virtualisation technology (App-V) including a large VDI environment (VMWare Horizon) and application deployment using Microsoft Configuration Manager. Group Policy management, desktop builds and windows performance will also be managed and supported in this area.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience in service provision to a detailed technical level utilising the groups of technologies listed below and be able to lead on providing solutions to complex issues and have the ability to provide lead technical guidance on projects, changes and upgrades to the services.

  • Application packaging, sequencing and deployment using tools such as InstallShield/Wise Software Package Studio, Orca, App-V , Group Policy management
  • Scripting Experience (PowerShell, VBS, BAT etc)
  • Investigative software such as ProcMon and similar tools monitoring at the O/S level

The successful candidate should also have the following Behavioural Competencies

  • Able to resolve complex problems working in a high pressure situation.
  • Able to communicate clearly about technical equipment and problems with non-technical users.
  • Work closely with other Infrastructure staff and 3rd parties and collaborate with project teams.
  • Able to represent the team at meetings involving senior infrastructure managers and non eHealth staff
  • Exposure to IT within the Health Service would be advantageous
