Job Advert
6-Month Fixed Term Contract/Secondment Opportunity
Public Health Scotland has now been operating for more than a year and we continue to make progress in protecting and improving the health and wellbeing of people cross Scotland. The joint sponsorship of the Scottish Government and Local Government is enabling us to give greater support to the wider public sector and other agencies that support communities. Our new body provides system leadership, supporting and enabling action to tackle the health inequalities that persist in many of our communities.
We are looking for an Executive and Governance lead to lead support functions for our Boards and Committees, to ensure effective governance as part of our new and developing organisation.
In this post you will lead a small team to deliver an excellent service to our Board, providing advice, support and insight on key areas of governance, making professional judgements on what is important at the different levels of governance. As part of your role, you will review our existing governance processes and work across the organisation to implement improved ways of working that create efficient and joined up decision making at every level of the organisation.
You will be able to demonstrate your management experience, understanding of governance - ideally in an NHS context - and political awareness which will be essential to identify priority areas set out in the Strategic Plan and in our complex stakeholder environment.
You should have management experience in a corporate role, with proven skills in managing staff and working across an organisation.
You will have well-developed influencing and communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships across our complex organisation and with Board members.
This post requires a master’s level qualification in a relevant subject area such as public policy, governance or business administration, or equivalent experience.
The post will report directly to the Director of Strategic Planning & Performance of Public Health Scotland. This will be a fixed term contract or secondment for a period of 12 months.
Location and Working Pattern
The post is based in either Gyle Square, Edinburgh or Meridian Court, Glasgow, though the successful candidate will largely be working from home initially. Applicants on any working pattern are welcome to apply for this post though it will be important that the candidate is able to attend Board meetings and Committees.
Our benefits package includes pension scheme, comprehensive range of work life balance policies, occupational health services, learning resource centres and discounted leisure, financial and shopping benefits.
