A part time, temporary vacancy has arisen to join the Optometry team within NHSGGC based at Gartnavel General Hospital, Glasgow. (Maternity Leave cover). You will join the existing team of 40 Optometrists who work in the 8 Ophthalmology departments across GG+C. Days of week required are Monday 9-5pm, Tuesday 9-5 pm and 3.75 hrs on either a Thursday or Friday. Dependant on the clinical experience of the successful candidate you will work at various sites across Glasgow in the core Optometry clinics including Adult Refraction, Further Investigative techniques, Low Vision , Contact lenses and Paediatric assessments. You will provide support to specialist Optometry and Ophthalmology clinics. You will have some clinical supervision responsibility for junior staff including Pre Registration Optometrists and HealthCare Support Workers. Previous hospital experience is desirable but not a pre-requisite. Ongoing comprehensive training will be provided to the successful candidate. This is an exciting opportunity for anyone looking to gain experience working in the Hospital Eye Service environment. Evidence of good communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently yet also within a team and the ability to prioritise work load using effective time management skills are desirable. You must have a Degree in Optometry and hold current General Optical Council registration. You may be occasionally required to cover clinics across site (dependant on experience), therefore the willingness to travel, if required, is essential.
