NHS TAYSIDE
CONSULTANT UROLOGIST WITH INTEREST IN LOWER URINARY TRACT SURGERY
(10 PAs PER WEEK)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Urologist with an interest in male Lower Urinary Tract (LUT) surgery to join a dynamic team of Tayside Regional Urology Service comprising 8 consultants and a group of experienced specialist nurses. This is a permanent post based at Perth Royal Infirmary with further sessions and on call commitments at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee.
NHS Tayside is one of the three major cancer centres in East of Scotland region for a catchment population of almost 450,000 people. The health board has recently acquired a multi-specialty DaVinci robot to support major cancer procedures.
The successful candidate will have a major commitment to the surgical management of BPH. In addition, the post holder will work with the nursing team in the one stop LUTS clinic. They will be performing HoLEP surgery which is already a well established procedure in NHS Tayside. The new appointee will be fully supported to develop the minimally invasive LUT procedures such as Urolift and Rezum. On-the-job mentorship will be supported to gain expertise in these procedures. They will also be required to provide services to the general elective and emergency urology workload.
The department has a very high academic profile, and the successful candidate will be encouraged to get involved in research projects both locally and regionally.

They will be actively involved in teaching medical students, with great opportunities to progress a career in medical education.
The department runs regular Urology courses at the world renowned Dundee Institute of Healthcare Simulation (formally the Cushieri Skills Centre). Applications from candidates with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not on the GMC Specialist Register, may be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months in the first instance), if no substantive consultant appointment is made. During their locum appointment, an application to obtain a CESR and entry onto the Specialist Register will be fully supported by the department.
