An opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified individual to join the Microbiology team at University Hospital Crosshouse.
The Microbiology department is a UKAS accredited laboratory, which provides a comprehensive diagnostic, multidisciplinary Microbiology service to all hospitals, clinics, GPs and health centres within NHS Ayrshire and Arran. We currently perform over 350,000 investigations per year.
You would be expected to carry out, under the supervision of qualified laboratory staff, a range of routine laboratory and administrative tasks. This would include the following: Receive and label specimens and distribute to the relevant department/section; Carry out preparatory procedures on samples; Basic operation of laboratory equipment including regular cleaning/maintenance; Input of patient's details into the laboratory information system to a high degree of accuracy; General stock keeping duties; General clerical duties; Communication with other departments by phone, letter and email; Handle enquiries from service users: Waste management duties
Rotation through all sections of the laboratory will be required.
You will require good keyboard skills, the ability to work accurately under pressure and a flexible approach to work.
Applicants must be educated to a minimum level of SVQ3 or HNC in a Science based subject, preferable Biomedical Science. Previous experience of working as an MLA or within a laboratory setting would be desirable. Full training will be provided.
You will be required to work within the department’s seven day extended service between 9am to 9pm and may include Public Holidays.
