Applications are open for this innovative 12 month rotation within the urology and general surgical departments at University Hospital Ayr. The position involves two 6 month placements within the Urology and General Surgery departments at University Hospital Ayr. 

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in welcoming, forward thinking departments. The intention of the rotating position is to increase the doctors’ exposure to multiple specialities before applications to the national surgical or higher speciality recruitment processes. Opportunities will be provided to enhance portfolios of successful candidates thereby providing a competitive trainee in future recruitment options.

This position would also be suitable for candidates who have completed core surgical training and wish to further develop their CV prior to applying for higher specialty training.
Doctors within this role will be expected to participate in elective work such as outpatient clinics, operating lists, and diagnostic sessions and departmental emergency care. If appointed you will provide out of hours oncall commitments to the Hospital at Night (HAN) rota.

The successful applicants will have a dedicated clinical supervisor and will be encouraged to use ISCP portfolio to document their surgical logbook and portfolios.  The appointed candidates will be expected to participate in audit, education and quality improvement projects within the four departments.

The role of Clinical Development Fellow allows successful applicants to spend 4-8 hours per week (1 day per fortnight or 2 half days) to perform dedicated development projects whether this be in education and teaching, research, quality improvement or leadership. CDF’s will be supported by the Director of medical Education in their area on interest. This will be supported with a study budget of £1250 per annum pro rata

A dedicated teaching programme will be provided by the core surgical specialities to ensure CDF’s have continued professional development of their knowledge and surgical skills.

The appointment will be whole time for the duration of 12 months (commencing 4 August 2021. A 50% pay supplement will be paid to recognise contribution to out of hours working and emergency duty commitments, and will be based on a salary range of £33,884- £53,280. The posts are not recognised for training.   Applicants must hold Full GMC Registration with a current Licence to Practice.
