TRAINEE WARD BASED ASSISTANT PRACTITIONER - BAND 4

This is an exciting opportunity to apply for this new role within the Surgical Division of Raigmore Hospital.

The Band 4 Ward Based Assistant Practitioners will work with the existing Nursing teams on wards 6a, 4a, 4c, 3a and 3c to provide safe and effective person centred care to our patient's. 

This new role covers all aspects of nursing care. Shift patterns will fit the needs of the service so could include unsocial hours and night duty.

The job will be physically and emotionally demanding as the post-holder will provide clinical and administrative support to nursing staff and undertake a range of clinical and non-clinical duties. Registered healthcare staff will delegate roles and tasks and you must have the ability to work independently and with supervision. You will carry out minor clinical procedures such as venepuncture, cannulation and catheterisation, you may also be required to look after a cohort of patients depending on the needs of the service.

You will be required to work in and out of hours, which may include days, evenings and weekends.

Applicants must have a minimum standard grade pass (or equivalent) in English and two other national grade passes. In addition, you must have good communication skills and a very good command of both written and spoken English.

Applications will be welcomed from HCSWs and AHPs with a minimum of 2 years experience in an acute healthcare setting.

Ward Based Assistant Practitioners are required to have completed a relevant qualification at SCQF level 7-8 or above, examples of common qualifications include Higher National Certificate/ Diploma (HNC/D) or Professional Development Award (PDA) at Level 8. As such the successful candidate will be required to undertake a specified training programme to achieve a relevant qualification at SCQF level 7-8, which has academic entry requirements.

The current course is the  PDA HEALTH & SOCIAL CARE: Promoting Enhanced Professional Practice (SCQF LEVEL 8) Distance Learning at Glasgow Clyde College.  The Post holders will be supported by a practice development nurse and aligned to NHSH and NES HCSW competency frameworks.​​​​​​​
