An exciting opportunity has arisen for two pharmacists to join our pharmacy Education and Training team while still practising as clinical pharmacists and participating in the provision of a high quality pharmaceutical service.
You will be a specialist for pharmacy education and training for hospital or primary care.
Your main responsibilities will be to develop and coordinate education and training for undergraduate pharmacy students – experiential learning, Trainee (Pre-Reg) pharmacists, Post-Registration foundation pharmacist trainees and pharmacists undertaking Independent Prescribing courses. You will also be expected to develop opportunities for in service training to all pharmacists.
The post holders will be expected to work collaboratively to deliver on these across both hospital and primary care.
In addition the posts will help deliver teaching on the medical education prescribing programme to medical undergraduates and junior doctors and support the development of clinical pharmacists especially those undertaking Advanced competency frameworks. New initiatives to support interprofessional teaching will be encouraged e.g. simulation sessions.
You will be expected to liaise with pharmacists within the hospital and primary care in NHS Ayrshire & Arran and with Education and Training pharmacists in Scotland. In addition liaise with NES and the Schools of Pharmacy - University of Strathclyde and Robert Gordon University.
You will provide pharmaceutical care to a designated clinical area/GP practice.
The hospital post has a designated 0.5wte clinical commitment within the medical directorate at University Hospital Crosshouse. The Primary care post can be combined with a clinical commitment in a GP Practice.
Pharmacy Services in NHS Ayrshire & Arran are undergoing a period of transformational change and these new roles will help shape the education and development of all pharmacists to ensure that staff have the necessary knowledge, skills and attitude to practice safely and efficiently at all levels. The post holders will also be able to continue to develop in their own clinical practice.
It is essential you have excellent organisational, presentational, advanced interpersonal and communication skills to work as an integral part of the pharmacy and multi-disciplinary teams. This is in addition to proven clinical knowledge, previous experience in pharmacy education and training and a good knowledge of pharmacists’ training. The ability to work both independently and as a team player is essential.
You must have a Masters of Pharmacy degree or equivalent and have completed the NES Pharmacy Foundation Vocational Training Scheme (or demonstrable evidence of clinical knowledge equivalent to that level).
You must be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
In addition you must hold a Practice Certificate in Pharmacist Independent Prescribing or be willing to work towards this qualification in a set time period.
You will be based in the pharmacy at University Hospital Crosshouse or Eglinton House, Ailsa Campus working across NHS Ayrshire & Arran. The posts involve working across NHS Ayrshire & Arran including both hospital and primary care settings.

A Car driver is essential for this role.
Hours of work are: Post 1 – 37.5hrs
Post 2 - 18.75hrs
In accordance with AFC terms and conditions you may be required to work over 7days and/or an extended working day and will be expected to participate in departmental rotas including on-call rota according to service need.
