Are you a midwife with a passion in supporting women with additional social needs?

Do you have a vested interest in supporting women with vulnerabilities in the unique journey to parenthood?

The WINGS Team (‘Women Individually Nurtured Grow Strength’) are an innovative community based midwifery team in NHS Dumfries and Galloway, who provide care and monitoring to pregnant women having additional complex social needs which may impact on their ability to parent.  A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a midwife to join the WINGS team and provide continuity of carer for women throughout the antenatal and postnatal periods. This is in line with the Scottish Government’s 5 year forward plan and initiative for maternity and neonatal services, ‘The Best Start’.
Care will incorporate health promotion, signposting and support with factors which may impact on a pregnant mother’s ability to parent.  The midwife will deliver non – judgemental, individualised midwifery care for women who present with complex social needs and will work in collaboration with families, and the multi-agency partners of organisations, to improve outcomes for the unborn, woman and her family. The role will involve working with the wider multidisciplinary teams including Social Services, Child Protection Advisors, Family Nurse Partnership and voluntary agencies such as Women’s Aid.

This opportunity will allow for experience within quality improvement and to trial the WINGS maternity care pathway allowing for tailored and flexible ways of working. The team can also be flexible in their approach to appointments and have a lowered caseload to spend longer time with women building valuable and trusting relationships. The WINGS team midwives have their own case loading responsibility but as a team support cover Mon- Sun. The post holder must hold a valid driving licence as this role will be based in the community in the Annandale and Eskdale region of Dumfries and Galloway at the new Annan Health centre. In Dumfries, the maternity unit hosts a birth rate of approximately 1200 babies a year and the midwife would join a small but welcoming wider team of professionals with a focus on high quality and person centred care.  Dumfries and Galloway hosts a beautiful place to live and work, displaying an array of glorious countryside with close transport links to both sides of the border.

You will be expected to work within a multidisciplinary team and will need to be flexible, self motivated and committed to delivering excellent standards of patient care and high quality patient experience.
