Are you interested in working and living in an area of natural beauty with clean air, no traffic jams and the opportunity to explore a variety of outdoor leisure activities, cultural activities, as well as a wealth of traditional craft and music related pursuits? Would you like to be able to see a patient’s care through from start to finish? Would you like to work in a pleasant and supportive department?

We are looking for a dynamic therapist to join our friendly and enthusiastic team of 12 Speech and Language Therapists and Assistants in providing a comprehensive service to the population of the beautiful Western Isles of Scotland. The post holder will take clinical responsibility for a mixed caseload, including clients with additional support needs. You will benefit from being able to build rapport with clients and their families while delivering person-centred care.

This post is based in Balivanich on the island of Benbecula, and provides services in a variety of health, education and community locations across the islands of North Uist, Benbecula, and South Uist (collectively known as the Uists) and Barra.

A new graduate, who could start at Band 5 and develop their skills to fulfil the duties of this position, may be considered (per Annex 20 of NHS Terms and Conditions of Service Handbook Scotland). Support from our senior Speech and Language Therapists is available. The post holder will have access to training on and off the island or via video conference.

The Western Isles offer a safe and pleasant environment to live and work in. Housing costs and crime rates are relatively low. There are daily travel connections to the mainland via air and ferry. As a resident of the Western Isles, the successful candidate will be eligible to hold an Air Discount Scheme (ADS) card (this is a Scottish Government initiative aimed to make air travel more affordable for remote communities in the islands by providing a discount of 50% on the core air fare on certain eligible routes).

A car driver is required for this post due to the spread of locations across the islands.

The successful applicant will be required to register with the PVG Scheme (Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme). This post is not eligible for relocation expenses.

For further information or an informal discussion about the post, please contact Christine Lapsley, Speech and Language Therapy Manager, on 07870-484-639 or christine.lapsley@nhs.scot.
