Senior Occupational Therapist. Rehabiliation Service

Bruar Ward and  Aonach Mor, New Craigs Hospital

Band 6 - £33,072 - £40,736 per annum pro rata

Permanent - 37.5 hours per week

This is an exciting opportunity to join NHS Highland's Mental Health Rehabilitation Service at New Craigs Hospital, Inverness.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Mental Health Occupational Therapist (OT) to join our Rehabilitation Service. Our multidisciplinary team provides assessment, treatment and support for adults with complex mental health needs who require a period of rehabilitation prior to their discharge from hospital. The successful candidate will join the existing multidisciplinary team, working between Bruar ward (a secure high dependency rehabilitation ward based at New Craigs Hospital) and Aonach Mor (a community rehabilitation ward based in Merkinch, near the town centre). OT is recognised as an integral part of rehabilitation services, and inpatient units with higher OT input can reduce lengths of stay by up to 20%.

The candidate should have experience of working within mental health services, either inpatient or community settings. The candidate should have enthusiasm and passion for improving the physical and mental health and wellbeing of people accessing mental health rehabilitation services. It is essential that the candidate has the compassion and resilience to work with people who have complex mental health needs, and has the ability to work both cooperatively and manage their own caseload. The successful candidate will work as part of an MDT assessing the needs of our complex service users, including the assessment of mental, cognitive, physical, psychological, social, functional and spiritual needs. The candidate will have responsibility in assessing,  formulating and evaluating treatment plans to optimise independent living skills. In addition, a positive attitude, good team working abilities and excellent communication skills are essential.

The candidate would also be joining our team at an exciting time as we are in the process of being evaluated for accreditation for Inpatient Mental Health services (AIMS). AIMS Rehabilitation is a supported quality assurance and accreditation process for mental health services through the Royal College of Psychiatrists: it identifies the gold standard for rehabilitation services in relation to good practice and high quality care. The accreditation process involves staff, service users and carers in the process of both self-review and peer-review for the purpose of quality improvement and accreditation, and the successful postholder will be involved as part of the team in ensuring our service meets these standards.
