Technical Specialist - Data and Analytics

NSS is the leading provider of data services and advanced analytics within the public sector in Scotland. Established in 2000, the Data and Analytics service is a dedicated team of professionals that designs, develops and supports integrated data and analytical platforms for NHSScotland which underpins Scotland’s reputation as a world leader in health informatics. Following a change in legislation in 2014, NSS now offers data and analytical services across the public sector.
Due to the increasing demand for data and analytical services, and the rapid expansion in data science and advanced analytics technologies and capabilities, we are looking for experienced and enthusiastic data and advanced analytics professionals to join our team.
The typical responsibilities will include:
• Technical analysis and consultancy
• Data platform architecting and engineering (including physical and virtual)
• Architecting and engineering of complex data processing and data wrangling routines
• Architecting and engineering of innovative data and advanced analytical solutions
Current leading edge technologies include Oracle Exadata and Denodo data virtualisation, Azure Machine Learning, PowerBI, Tableau visual analytics and Business Objects reporting. During the coming year, the Data and Analytics team will be continuing to expand their capabilities particularly in the areas of automation, workflow management, unstructured and machine data, and AI and machine learning.
Services provided by the Data and Analytics team include consultancy; architecting and engineering of innovative data and analytical solutions; support and maintenance of over 200 data sets and 700k reports and interactive dashboards; and provision of platforms as a service (PaaS). The team also provide support and mentoring of a community of 400 analytics developers and 40k+ users. All services are underpinned by our 4 strategic Centres of Excellence – Data; Reporting & Visual Analytics; Advanced Analytics; and AI.
A degree, or equivalent, is required plus significant experience in the delivery of enterprise-wide data and analytical solutions. Successful candidates will be strong communicators, with an enthusiastic, proactive attitude.
